Why Use Goat Milk in Soap?

Goat milk is a powerhouse ingredient in skincare! Here’s why:

Deep Moisturization: The high fat content in goat milk hydrates and nourishes dry skin.

Rich in Vitamins: Packed with vitamin A, which helps repair and renew skin cells.

Natural Exfoliation: Contains lactic acid, which gently removes dead skin for a radiant glow.

Soothing Properties: Great for eczema, psoriasis, and sensitive skin.

Making soap at home lets you skip the harsh chemicals and create a pure, natural bar with ingredients you trust!

Essential Tools & Ingredients

Before we dive into the recipe, make sure you have the following supplies on hand:

Soap-Making Tools

Stainless Steel Pot: For safely heating ingredients.

Silicone Soap Molds: Helps create perfect bar shapes.

Digital Kitchen Scale: For accurate ingredient measurements.

Stick Blender: Makes mixing easy and ensures smooth soap.

Lye-Safe Measuring Cups: Essential for handling lye safely.

Ingredients for Goat Milk Soap

Raw Goat Milk: Fresh is best, but frozen works too!

Lye (Sodium Hydroxide): Required for proper soap formation.

Olive Oil: Adds extra moisture and mildness.

Coconut Oil: Helps create a creamy, foamy lather.

Shea Butter: For extra softness and skin protection.

Essential Oils: Optional, but lavender, honey, or chamomile add a nice touch!

Step-by-Step Guide: Making Goat Milk Soap

Step 1: Prepare Your Goat Milk

  • Measure 10 ounces of goat milk and freeze it in an ice cube tray. This helps prevent scorching when you mix it with lye.

Step 2: Mix the Lye Solution (Caution!)

  • Put on gloves and goggles for safety.
  • In a well-ventilated area, slowly add 4.4 ounces of lye into the frozen goat milk cubes (never the other way around!).
  • Stir gently until the lye dissolves completely. The mixture will heat up!

Step 3: Melt & Combine the Oils

  • In a pot, melt:
✔ 10 ounces of olive oil
✔ 10 ounces of coconut oil
✔ 4 ounces of shea butter
  • Let the oils cool to about 100°F before proceeding.

Step 4: Blend Everything Together

  • Slowly pour the lye-goat milk mixture into the oils.
  • Use a stick blender and blend until it reaches a pudding-like texture.

Step 5: Add Essential Oils (Optional)

  • Stir in 1-2 teaspoons of essential oils for scent.

Step 6: Pour into Molds & Let It Set

  • Pour the soap mixture into silicone molds and smooth the top.
  • Cover with a towel and let it sit for 24 hours.

Step 7: Cure the Soap

  • Remove the soap from the mold and place bars on a rack.
  • Let them cure for 4-6 weeks in a dry, well-ventilated area. This allows excess moisture to evaporate, creating a longer-lasting, better-lathering bar.

Tips for the Best Goat Milk Soap

Use frozen goat milk: Prevents the milk from overheating and changing color.

Be patient with curing: Fully cured soap is harder and lasts longer.

Experiment with scents: Try vanilla, rosemary, or sweet orange essential oils.

Want an exfoliating bar?: Add oatmeal or dried flowers for a gentle scrub!
