Finding Peace on the Farm: How Nature and Animals Help Heal
There are days when the heaviness of life feels inescapable. Grief, burnout, anxiety, or the sheer overwhelm of the modern world can leave us feeling unmoored. At BLeaves Farms, we’ve come to believe in the transformative power of slowing down, connecting with nature, and letting animals do what they do best…remind us how to be present.
Our two-acre farm in the heart of the Valley of the Sun isn’t just a home; it’s a sanctuary. Not just for the rescue animals who live here, but for us, too. Here, healing happens in the form of muddy hooves, sun-warmed citrus trees, and quiet moments by the koi pond.
The Healing Power of Animals
Animals have an uncanny ability to love without judgment and to comfort without words. Every single creature on our farm has a story. Many of them began in hardship. Oinkley, one of our rescue pigs, was born blind and orphaned. Now, he’s a belly-rub-loving, joyful friend to all. Misty and Adira, our majestic Gypsy Vanner horses, look like something straight out of a fairytale. When they lovingly share their pellets of hay with each other, it melts our hearts.
Even our stately off-track thoroughbred guest, Ares, who once raced for glory, now races to the fence when it’s dinnertime, nickering with pure joy. These animals have taught us that no matter where you started, there’s always room for a new story. One filled with connection, peace, and a little bit of magic.
Nature as Medicine
From the scent of citrus blossoms in spring to the hum of bees in the elderberry and fig forest, our farm reminds us daily that healing doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes it’s found in pulling weeds while feeling the warmth of the sun, or watching the wind ripple through the fruit and olive trees. Studies have shown that spending even 20 minutes in nature can lower cortisol levels and boost serotonin. But we don’t need studies to tell us. We feel it every day.
We invite visitors to experience that magic, even virtually. If you can’t visit in person, try starting your own healing rituals at home. Morning journaling in the garden, sipping lavender and chamomile tea, or sitting beside a houseplant and just breathing. Healing begins in the pause.
The Joy of Creating
Creativity is another powerful form of therapy. That’s why we love sharing hands-on projects like our recent Homemade Goat Milk Soap blog. While we no longer raise goats ourselves, we get fresh milk from our wonderful neighbors and once upon a time, we even welcomed a baby Nubian born right here on the farm.
Goat milk soap is gentle, nourishing, and surprisingly simple to make. Whether you’re a seasoned homesteader or a curious beginner, we’ve got step-by-step instructions, recommended supplies, and tips for customizing your bars. It’s a beautiful way to slow down and treat yourself to a bit of self-care.

Embracing the Journey
If you’ve been feeling disconnected, exhausted, or sad, you are not alone. Life can be heavy. But there is beauty in slowing down, in remembering that small moments matter. That healing doesn’t happen overnight, and that’s okay.
At BLeaves Farms, we’ve been rebuilding more than just soil…we’ve been rebuilding ourselves. One fence post at a time. One rescue at a time. One quiet moment with a cup of garden-grown tea at a time.
We’d love to have you along for the journey.
